Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
ButterHabits ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI habit-tracking application. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the app and website.
2. Data stored on your device
ButterHabits is local-first. Core app data is stored on your device, including:
- Habits, schedules, priorities, and descriptions
- Follow and break check-ins
- Reasons, triggers, recovery actions, tips, notes, and reflections
- Streaks, points, rewards, and analytics history
- App preferences and notification settings
- Local backup, export, and import data
- Chat content and AI results saved by the app
Local-first does not mean every feature is offline. AI, account, cloud-backup, purchase, support, and website services use online systems as described below.
3. Accounts and cloud backup
Signing in is required for automatic daily cloud backup, manual cloud backup, cloud restore, password recovery, account deletion, and related account services. Supabase is used for authentication and cloud-backup storage.
While you are signed in and online, ButterHabits attempts an automatic cloud backup once per day. A new upload may be skipped when the latest backup is already current, a backup already ran that day, the app has no changed data, or the cloud service is temporarily unavailable.
Signing out stops automatic cloud backup on that device. Your existing local habits and app data remain on the device unless you delete, reset, replace, or uninstall the app. Cloud backup reduces the risk of data loss but cannot guarantee that every change will always be recoverable, so a manual export can provide an additional copy.
Account and cloud services may process your email address, account identifier, authentication records, backup contents, backup metadata, device identifier, app version, and service logs needed to provide those features.
4. AI features
When you use AI chat, AI Review, habit suggestions, trigger assistance, reflection assistance, or similar features, the app may send your message and relevant app context to ButterHabits backend services and AI model providers to generate a response.
Relevant context may include habit details, check-in information, reflections, recovery actions, or progress summaries when needed for the request. Avoid entering sensitive personal information that is not necessary for habit guidance. AI output may be stored in chat history or app records when the feature saves it or you confirm it.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat may be used to manage subscription status and feature access. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.
6. Device information and permissions
The app may access limited technical information needed for compatibility, security, updates, backups, and service operation, such as app version, device model, operating system, and platform or app identifiers.
Depending on the features you use, the app may request permission for:
- Notifications and reminders
- Biometric authentication for App Lock
- Microphone access for voice input
- Files or storage for backup, export, and import
- Home-screen widgets and other platform integrations
Permissions can be changed through your device settings.
7. Website analytics and communications
The ButterHabits website uses Google Analytics to measure visits and site performance. Its default collection may include session statistics, approximate location, browser and device information, and a client identifier stored in a first-party cookie where permitted.
If you contact us, submit feedback, join the product-update list, request a feature, or use support, we receive the information you provide and the technical details needed to process and respond to the request.
8. Third-party services
ButterHabits may use third-party services including:
- Apple App Store and Google Play for distribution, purchases, and subscription management
- RevenueCat for subscriptions and entitlements
- Supabase for authentication, backend functions, and cloud backup
- AI model providers for AI responses
- Google Analytics for website measurement
- Firebase for website roadmap, feature-request, and related functions
- Brevo for update-list confirmation emails where used
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
9. Data sharing and sale
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only when needed to provide a feature you use, process purchases, operate AI, account, backup, analytics, email, or support services, comply with law, or protect ButterHabits and its users.
10. Retention and deletion
Local data remains on your device until you delete it, reset app data, import a replacement backup, or uninstall the app, subject to device backups. Signing out does not delete local data.
Account data, cloud backups, purchase records, analytics data, support messages, and service logs may remain according to the relevant service provider's retention rules, legal obligations, and account-deletion process. Uninstalling ButterHabits does not by itself delete cloud backups or cancel an app-store subscription.
11. Security
ButterHabits uses device security features, authenticated cloud access, and service configurations intended to protect data. No method of storage, backup, or transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your device, email account, password, and app-store account.
12. Your choices

- Sign in to enable automatic daily cloud backup
- Sign out to stop future automatic cloud backups on that device
- Create a manual cloud backup or restore the latest available backup while signed in

13. Children's privacy
ButterHabits is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ButterHabits changes. Material updates will be communicated through the app or website when practical, and the date above will be revised.
